In seeking to improve written documents, writers revise, edit and proofread. In revising, writers look at the big picture, whereas in editing and proofreading, they target to the mechanical aspects of the writing.
In writing, what might the "big picture" entail? 2. Why might mechanical correctness not be the focus of the first stage of revision?

In the revision stage, the writer wants to make sure that s/he's conveyed the information in as clear and organized a manner as possible. At this point s/he wants to make sure that the audience understands what s/he wants to say.
