2 * 48 * 1 + 2 * ( 40 - 2 ) * 1 =
96 + 2 * 38 = 96 + 76 = 172 cm ^ 2
OR
2 * 40 * 1 + 2 * ( 48 - 2 ) * 1 =
80 + 2 * 46 = 80 + 92 = 172 cm ^ 2
OR
New dimensions of a picture : 48 - 2 = 46 cm and 40 - 2 = 38 cm
48 * 40 - 46 * 38 = 1920 - 1748 = 172 cm ^ 2
96 + 2 * 38 = 96 + 76 = 172 cm ^ 2
OR
2 * 40 * 1 + 2 * ( 48 - 2 ) * 1 =
80 + 2 * 46 = 80 + 92 = 172 cm ^ 2
OR
New dimensions of a picture : 48 - 2 = 46 cm and 40 - 2 = 38 cm
48 * 40 - 46 * 38 = 1920 - 1748 = 172 cm ^ 2

Note that the frame is 1cm wide (all round) so that means that the distance will increase by 2
therefore ;
areas = l x b
=48+2 * 40+2
= 50*42
= 2100 cm²
therefore ;
areas = l x b
=48+2 * 40+2
= 50*42
= 2100 cm²
