why is a solution of copper sulfate and sulfuric acid required in corrosion testing? Won't the protons and the positive ions adhere to the metals surface and contaminant it?? Just a curious q. Thanks!

I am not an expert on corrosion testing but I don't think it is necessary to try the
REAL material in use; i.e., a small 1" or 2" square is taken and the test is done on that piece. In other words, that is a throw away piece and not a piece of the original equipment.
