This is a shape of a rectangle with a triangular point to the right. Width is 4, Length is 10 and 16 when you include the triangular point.
What is the area, in square units, of the figure above?
I know the formula of area is A=lw
But I think I am missing something. The answer is 52 but I am not sure what I am supposed to do to get this answer.

As you probably noticed, your figure did not come out as you intended.
I read that as a rectangle 4 by 10 with an attached triangle of base 6 and height 4
so total area = rectangle + triangle
= 4x10 + (1/2)(6x4)
= 40 + 12
= 52
btw, "triangular point" makes no sense. A point is a position and has no dimension.
