In the expression 4x squared + 7 what is the degree of 4x squared?

How do I solve for X?

4x^2 + 7 is a second degree expression

Had it been 4x^3, it would have been a third degree expression. The term with the highest degree determines the degree of the whole expression.

If the equation had been
4x^2 + 7 = 0
4x^2 = -7
x^2 = -7/4
which is not a real number, so the equation has no REAL solution.

Don't know if you studied complex numbers yet,
from the level of difficulty of your question my guess it that you haven't, so I will not go there.

Thank You! I got it. I guess they weren't really asking me to solve it. Just explain the degree.
