World War II for one, then the Communist Revolution in China for another. For Taiwan, the Cold war was important, and is still important.

For Mongolia, there is a current event (Global Climate Change)that is affecting Mongolia in that it's huge coal resources are going broke, putting many out of work as the big customer, China, is cutting way back on coal for power generation because of air pollution. You willhave difficulty finding this in modern literature, because of the climate doubters...however, you can see the effects on Mongolia coal mining the past three years..
