Item cost $6750 vat inclusive. If VAT was charged at 12.5% what was the cost of the item before VAT?

6750 is 87.5% of the cost of the item before VAT.
and it looks like this
6750 87.5
R 100 ( R is the original price)
=> R= 6750x100/87.5=7714
