    one number --- 2x , (avoiding fractions)
the other ----- x + 5
(2x)^2- (x+5)^2 = 17
4x^2 - x^2 - 10x -25 - 17 = 0
3x^2 - 10x - 42 = 0
x = (10 ± √604)/6
= (5 ± √151)/3
2x = ....
x+5 = ...
it works, I checked on my calculator
