It's a ratio, so ...

4/9 = x/2340

4/9 = x/2340

Sorry, but that equation is not correct
let the number of graduate students be 4x, let the number of undergrads be 9x
so 4x+9x = 2340
13x = 2340
x = 180
so number of undergraduates = 9x = 1620
(graduate students = 4x = 720)
notice 720:1620 = 4:9
let the number of graduate students be 4x, let the number of undergrads be 9x
so 4x+9x = 2340
13x = 2340
x = 180
so number of undergraduates = 9x = 1620
(graduate students = 4x = 720)
notice 720:1620 = 4:9
