2x^-5 = 2/x^5

2x^(-3/4) = 2/x^(3/4)

a negative exponent just means shifting the value between numerator and denominator. Note that this also means that

2/x^(-2) = 2x^2
since that is 2 / (1/x^2) = 2 * x^2/1 = 2x^2
