Solve: x^-2 - x^-1= 5/4

I have the answer as (5+/- sqrt29)/2

Is this right?

I multiplied all terms of your equation by 4x^2 to get
5x^2 + 4x - 4 = 0

using the formula gave me (-2 ±4√6)/5
which verified upon substitution.

you should have tried your answer in the original equation, it does not work.

(-2 }2ã6)/5
