Or, you can just start approximating, but a calculator will come in very handy.
For example, you know that
2^3 = 8
3^3 = 27
So, ∛16 will be between 2 and 3. Next, note that
2.5^3 = 15.625
2.6^3 = 17.576
2.51^3 = 15.813
2.52^3 = 16.003
and so on
