Dog Debate
UNIT NAME: EQUATIONS AND INEQUALITIES
Directions: The traditional method for calculating a dog's age in dog years is to
multiply its age in human years by 7. The chart below describes a different method
some veterinarians use to estimate a dog's age based on its size.
Size Small Medium Large Giant
Weight 20 pounds
or less
21‒50
pounds
51‒90
pounds
more than 90
pounds
Age at 2 in
Human Years
23 dog years 24 dog years 22 dog years 20 dog years
Age Increase
Each Year
After 2 in
Human Years
4 dog years 5 dog years 6 dog years 7 dog years
1. Choose a dog breed in each size category. You can use the dog breed charts
on the following page or do research to choose a different breed.
2. Complete a table to show the dog year equivalent for each breed from 2–5
human years.
3. Let x equal the age, in human years, for a dog that is 2 years old or older.
For each of your chosen breeds, write an expression to model its age in dog
years. [Hint: Use (x 2) in each expression.]
4. Choose what you consider to be a really old, but realistic, age for people.
5. For each expression you write, plug in the value you chose in step 4—an old age for a
human—for x. Set each expression equal to A.
6. Solve each equation, and explain what the solution means. Add the old-age
values to your table.
7. Use your solutions to develop a convincing argument for why the method
described in the chart is better than the traditional method.
8. You may wish to do research to find the average lifespan for each dog breed
and use those facts in your argument.
Use your table, equations, solutions, and arguments to create your debate
presentation. Your presentation can be written, but you could also use slide
presentation software or create a video of yourself giving the presentation. Your
completed presentation will be submitted as your portfolio assessment

I'm clarly late but aye? ok so heres the first 5 steps (not including the table) :
Chihuahua
(x -2)/4
English springer spaniel
(x -2)/5
German shepherd
(x -2)/6
Saint Bernard
(x -2)/ 7
I consider 80 to be really old, but as im thinking this through it is more likely that more people live to 60 than they do 80. So even though it is not ‘’really old’’ 60 will be more believeable.
Chihuahua (A)
(60 -2)/4 =A
English springer spaniel (B)
(60 -2)/5 =A
German shepherd (C)
(60 -2)/6 =A
Saint Bernard (D)
(60 -2)/ 7 =A
{A} (60 -2)/4 = 14.5
{B} (60 -2)/5 = 11.5
{C} (60 -2)/6 = 9.6…..
{D} (60 -2)/ 7 = 8.2….
currently I'm trying to find out what the solution means....if I rember this thing I will come back and put my completed answer here...but enjoy the bit I gave I hope this helps!

Nobody is that stupid. You're probably some kid trying to trick others into believing your a teacher, which you aren't doing very well. If you suck at trying to pretend to be a teacher, you are in no way even a troller cause u obviously suck at lying.

Hi
Thank you for your time and helping everyone out, but instead of just giving the answers, wouldn't it have been easier to help them with it? Explain your work. I tried working out a lot of the equations, but couldn't find any correct answers because the work wasn't shown. Again, thank you, but it would be way more helpful if someone had explained their work.

I'm helping my student with this and this is what we came up with...
First, make sure to download the template in the assignment. It will make things a lot easier.
Step 1 is self explanatory (pick a breed from the list).
Step 2. Add the number of years to the dog's age at 2 in human years. Example: For a small dog, you would add 4 to 23, and continue adding 4 for each year. (23+4=27, 27+4=31, 31+4=35). For a medium dog, you would add 5 to 24, and continue adding 5 for each year, etc.
Step 3. In the instructions, it says to use (x-2) in each expression. We started with that and then multiplied the "Age in increase each year" (i.e., 4,5,6, or 7) and then added the "Age at 2 in human years" (i.e., 23, 24, 22, or 20) to get the expression for each breed. I'm not going to post all the answers, but I think that should give you all a good start.
Hope this helps!
