john has horses and chickens he has 3 less chickens than horses, if you count the total number of legs for chickens and horses you will get 24 how many chickens does john have?

6c=24-12
6c=12
c=12/6
c=2

Let's see if that answer works.

With 2 chickens, there must be 5 horses.

2 * 2 = 4 legs
5 * 4 = 20 legs

4 + 20 = 24 legs
