7/x^2-8 does it give you 7ln(x^2-8)

no. if u = x^2-8, du = 2x dx

You need an x in the numerator.

Instead, use partial fractions.

x^2-8 = (x+√8)(x-√8)

You will wind up with logs of those factors.
