It was as follows:
Sinea=Snacks $5.00; Games $8.00; Souvenirs $12.00
Ren=Snacks $10.00; Games $8.00; and Souvenirs $20.0
Sinea=Snacks $5.00; Games $8.00; Souvenirs $12.00
Ren=Snacks $10.00; Games $8.00; and Souvenirs $20.0

When I tried to answer this I got the following:
Sinea=$3.33 was spent on souvenirs
Ren=$2.50 was spent on souvenirs
I do not know if I got the correct answers and am unsure how to explain why one person paid more money than the other.

So for Sinea it was
snacks : games : souv = 5 : 8 : 12 or 5x : 8x : 12x
then ...
5x+8x+12x = 40
25x = 40
x = 1.6
Then Sinea spent the following:
snacks = 5x = 8
games = 8x = 12.50
<b>souvenirs = 12x = 19.20</b>
Now repeat the same steps for Ren
sn : ga : sou = 10 : 8 : 20
= 5 : 4 : 10 or 5y : 8y : 10y
23y = 40
y = 1.7391.. (I stored in my calculator for accuracy)
since all we care about is the comparison in souvenirs
<b>Ren spent 10y on souvenirs
= 17.39</b>
snacks : games : souv = 5 : 8 : 12 or 5x : 8x : 12x

5x+8x+12x = 40

Let me ask you this. You said to repeat the same steps for Ren so I understand when you put 10:8:20 then I understand that you reduced 10:8:20=5:4:10
So would it be 5x:4x:10x=
19x=40
x=2.10
So would it be 5x:4x:10x=
19x=40
x=2.10

it would be Sinea, because last year she spent 5 dollars on snacks and to get to 40 you have to multiply 5x8 which makes 40, so if Ren spent 10 dollars on snacks last year it would take 4 times that amount to get 40. then multiply the amount of the money they each spent on souvenirs by the amount it took them to get to 40 last year. If you multiply the amount Sinea got (to equal 40), then you would get 96, then do that with Ren and you would get 80. 96 is more than 80 so Sinea would be spending more on Souvenirs
