A park is 30 meters by 24 meters. It has a path of uniform width around it. Find the width of the path if its area is one fourth that of the garden.

so, the area of the park is 4/5 the total area including the path. If the path has width w, we have
30*24 = 4/5 (30+2w)(24+2w)
or, you can say that the area of the path (the whole thing minus the park) is 1/4 the area of the park alone:
(30+2w)(24+2w) - 30*24 = 1/4(30*24)
either way, just solve for w.
