30 = 8 times square root of (h - 40)
I have done this so many ways, I couldn't possibly show all my work. I do know the answer is 54, I just don't know how to get it!

30 = 8 * sqroot ( h - 40 ) Divide both sides by 8
30 / 8 = sqroot ( h - 40 )
2 * 15 / ( 2 * 4 ) = sqroot ( h - 40 )
15 / 4 = sqroot ( h - 40 ) Raise both sides to the power of two :
( 15 / 4 ) ^ 2 = h - 40
225 / 16 = h - 40 Add 40 to both sides
225 / 16 + 40 = h - 40 + 40
225 / 16 + 40 = h
225 / 16 + 40 * 16 / 16 = h
225 / 16 + 640 / 16 = h
865 / 16 = h
h = 865 / 16
h = 54.0625
865 / 16 = h
h = 865 / 16
h = 54.0625
