first find how much 1/5 of 1200 is.
1200 divided by 5 = 240. 240*3 ( * means multiply) = 720
720 pupils are girls.
1200 - 720 = 480.
480 pupils are girls.
480 divided by 240 = 2.
2/5 of the pupils are boys.
