Mrs. Li baked a cherry pie for her 3 sons to share equally. She cut the pievinto 6 slices. What fraction of the pie did each son get? If each son only ate half of his share, what fraction of the whole pie was left over?

1/3 for each son.

if each ate 1/2 of his share, then 1/2 of the pie was eaten, leaving 1/2 uneaten.

You can see that the number of slices does not matter here.
