Why is freedom of expression important for the media

Because most of what we know aout what is going on in politics comes from the media and if it is controlled by the government, then we only get to hear what the government wants us to hear. Of course there are other threats such as financial control of the media by a small group of rich people who own newspapers and TV and radio stations. That is harder to make laws against, particularly if they are cooperating with the government leaders and the courts are complicit.
