I think the answer is A. Re-read the paragraph. It states that he told his servants "explicit orders not to stir from the house". It also states "I well knew to insure their immediate disappearance, one and all, as soon as my back was turned". It plainly states the answer which is A. But, maybe I'm wrong and you should get a second opinion too. Just so you can finalize your answer.
