This diagram is a scale drawing of a fountain. If the side length of one square is 2 feet, what is the area of the fountain? A stands for Area.

A. A = 9 to the second power.
B. A = 12 to the second power.
C. A = 18 to the second power.
D. A = 36 to the second power.

It is a 3 by 3 square.

If one square has a length of 2 feet, then 3 squares in a row is 6 feet long. This means the fountain is 6 feet long. Since its a square, the height is the same as the length. The fountain is 6 feet by 6 feet.

Area = Length x Height
A = 6 x 6
A = 36 feet squared

The answer would be D
