A plastic jug contains 2g gallons of milk more than a carton of milk. The plastic jug and the carton contain(8g+6) gallons of milk altogether. How much milk does the plastic jug contain?

PJ=CM+2g
or PJ-CM=2g
PJ+Cm=8g+6

add the equations
2PJ=10g+6
PJ=5g+3 then
cm=3g+3
