                just a clarification i think i may have my events mixed up, the colonies- were under the articles of confederation correct? and then the am revolution happened and then the constitution? am i correct?

    The colonies were under British Law. 
After the Revolution, the Articles of Confederation were drawn up, but were not good enough, so then all those guys got together again and came up with the US Constitution.
