Since 1 mol Cl2 is given off for 1 mol MCl2 and 1 mol M, then 45.25 g M must be approx 0.4 mol.

0.4 45.25/atomic mass
Solve for atomic mass = about 112 or so. Do this more accurately and look up the element in the periodic table. Is that somewhere around Cd?
