If 8,x,y,z and 20 are in A.P.find x,y,z

y-x = x-8
y = 2x-8

z-y = y-x
z = 2y - x
= 2(2x-8) - x = 3x - 16

20-z = z-y
y = 2z - 20
2x - 8 = 2(3x-16)-20
2x-8 = 6x - 32-20

4x = 44
x = 11
y = 22-8 = 14
z = 33-16 = 17

or, simplest way:

4d = 20-8
d = 3

so the terms are 8, 11, 14, 17, and 20
match the x,y, and z
