First we have the treaty of Versailles, which basically made Germany pay for all the damage WW1 had done. With Germany's economy collapsing, the were desperate for a leader and there came Hitler. When Hitler was in power, he gathered all of Germany's troops and launched an attack to Poland thus staring the second world war.

World War II started when Germany invaded Poland in September, 1939. Most of Europe was involved.

It took the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor in December, 1941, to bring the U.S. into the war.
