take the highest power of each prime factor (or variable) common to all values and multiply them together:
x^3y = x^3 y^1
x^7 = x^7 y^0
GCF = x^3 y^0 = x^3
x^3y = x^3 y^1
x^7 = x^7 y^0
GCF = x^3 y^0 = x^3
