to get the mean, or the average in everyday language), add up all your numbers and divide that sum by the number of entries you had.

If you numbers are arranged from smallest to largest, the middle number is the median.
If you have an odd number of numbers there is an actual "middle" number.
For an even number of entries, add the two middle numbers and divide by 2 for the median.
