ted skated through one of the face off circles at a hockey rink. His path through the circle is shown in the figure. Given that the face off circle is 15 feet in diameter what distance within the face off circle did Ted travel??

Easy. YOu know you have two intersection chords. http://www.mathopenref.com/chordsintersecting.html
the unmarked part of the diameter is 15-4=11
let x be the unmarked part of the path.
so...
4*11=5x
x=44/5
path then is 44/5 + 5
the unmarked part of the diameter is 15-4=11
