You have two equations in two unknowns. Solve the two equations simultaneously.
Let X = mass KI
and Y = mass NaCl
equation 1 is X + Y = 10
(Note: I chose to use 10. You can use ANY number as long as you are consistent.)
mm stands for molar mass in equation 2. Equation 2 is
X(mm K2SO4/2*mm KI) + Y(mm Na2SO4/2*mm NaCl) = 10
Solve for X and Y to find mass of eadch.
Then %KI = (mass KI/10)*100 =
%NaCl = (mass NaCl/10)*100 = ?
I think the answers are approx 68% KI and approx 32% NaCl but those are just close estimates.
No change of mass was observed when a definite amount of a mixture of KI and NaCl is converted to sulphate salts. What is the percentage composition of the mixture?
