i don't understand transitive and intransitive verbs. could you help?

Transitive <u>verbs</u> have an <b>object</b>.
Examples:
<i>I <u>ate</u> a <b>hamburger</b>.
Sandy <u>took</u> a <b>picture</b> of the bride.</i>
Transitive <u>verbs</u> do not have an object.
<i>The dog <u>ran</u> ahead of me.
We <u>talked</u> about our future.</i>
