Question
Two trucks A and B each travelling at 40 km/hr, move towards each other . At the instance when the two trucks are at a distance 50 km from one another, a car moving at 60 km/hr overtakes A. How far behind the car is A at the point when the car meets B?
Answers
The two trucks meet in .625 hrs. At that time truck A has moved 25 km. The car has moved 37.5 km. So the two are 12.5 km apart.
pls can u work it out? I don't understand how u got the answer.
v1=v2
distance apart is 50km,then each truck has 25km to cover
taking one truck (A): t=s/v t=25km/40kmhr^-1= 5/8hrs for the trucks .
in 5/8hrs, Overtaking car has speed of 60km/hr.
now s=vt
s=60km/hr x 5/8hr= 37.5km.
in 5/8hr car A= 25km
car C=37.5km. difference is. 12.5km

but car C will collide with car B when C is at 37.5km, A is at 12.5km (d/4 B is also at 12.5km)
difference in distance is 37.5-12.5= 25km

At the instant of the car overtaking truck A, the car is approaching truck B at 60 + 40 = 100 km/h. Since truck B is 50 km away, the car will meet it in 0.5 hours. During that period, the car will be leaving truck A behind at 60 - 40 = 20 km/h. Therefore the car will leave truck A behind by (20)(0.5) = 10 km.
