The percent composition in these problems means to calculate the percent of each element versus the entire compound.
It works this way. Suppose you have 10 lbs apples and 5 pounds oranges. What is %apples and %os.
%apples = (weight apples/total weight)*100 = (10/15)*100 = 66.67
So for Mg(OH)2, the molar mass is 58.3 (that's 24.3+16+16+1+1).
So %Mg = (24.3/58.3)&100 = ?
%O = (32/58.3)*100 = ?
etc/
