Which sentence is correct?
The teacher: told the child's mother "Please be sure to dress Jackie warmly tomorrow."
The teacher told the child's mother: "Please be sure to dress Jackie warmly tomorrow."
The teacher told the child's mother "Please be sure: to dress Jackie warmly tomorrow."
The teacher told the child's mother "Please be sure to dress Jackie warmly tomorrow."
Know the third is wrong, but I don't know if the second or fourth is right...

Number 2 is best, although I would use a comma after mother.
