I cannot solve for x in the following expression, -4 + 2x + 2 = x + 1 + x. Am i missing something?

No, you can not solve for x
I am also taking the same class as you! I think
You combine like terms: 2+2x=2x+1
2+2x-2x-1
2=1 well I think it is impossible to solve! Sometimes, they'll ask trick questions, like that!! :)
