In February, you have a balance of $80 in your bank account. Each month you deposit $20. Let January = 1, February = 2, and so on. Write an equation for this situation. Use the equation to find the balance in December.
y = 20(x – 4); $200
y - 80 = 20(x - 2); $280
y = 20(x – 4); $80
y – 80 = 20x; $20
y = 20(x – 4); $200
y - 80 = 20(x - 2); $280
y = 20(x – 4); $80
y – 80 = 20x; $20

The equation you will use is y - 80 = 20(x - 2); $280
y - 80 = 20(x - 2)
y = 20x - 40 + 80
y = 20x + 40 then factor to get,
y = 20(x + 2)
let x = 12 since December is the 12th month.
y = 20(12 + 2) --> y = 20(14)
y = 280
y - 80 = 20(x - 2)
y = 20x - 40 + 80
y = 20x + 40 then factor to get,
y = 20(x + 2)
let x = 12 since December is the 12th month.
y = 20(12 + 2) --> y = 20(14)
y = 280
