Mr. Jeff divided his money in the ratio 4:2 between Jon and jack. Jon got the smaller amount of 1,256. How much did jack receive?

let the amounts be 4x and 2x

John's share is 2x

2x = 1256
x = 628

so Jack got 4x or 2512

(why not state the original ratio as 2:1 ?)
