Can someone help me solve this problem please? The directions are to simplify the logarithm:

log5(a + 2) + log5(a – 2)

1 answer

since the sum of logs is the log of the product, you have

log((a+2)(a-2)) = log(a^2-4)

Here the base is 5, but the rule holds for any base.
