Javier bought 48 sports cards at a yard sale. Of the cards, 3 over 8 were baseball cards. How many cards were baseball cards?

How would I go about figuring out the answer? I am confused.

(3/8) * 48 = 144/8 = 18

When you are saying 3/8 times 48 do you put 48 at the bottom and what do you put at the top?
