1/3 = 2/6

Imagine that you and two friends are sharing a pizza. You cut it into thirds so that each of you gets 1/3 of the pizza.

Then three more friends arrive and now you have to cut the pizza into sixths. Now each of you will have 1/6 of the pizza -- which is smaller than the 1/3 you already cut.
