in four games of basketball, michael scored 14, 9, 10 and 11 points. After one more game his mean was 12 points per game. how many points did he score in the fifth game?

No way. His average score for the first 4 games was 11 points.

No way could he raise his average to 12 by just scoring another 11!

You need to set it up like this:

14+9+10+11+x = 5*12
