how about this approach:
10 cm/sec
= 600 cm/minute
= 36000 cm/hr
1 ft = 12 x 2.54 cm = 30.48 cm
so 36000 cm/hr
= (36000/30.48) ft/hr
= 1181.102...
you were right.
