An object traveling 339 m/s strikes a 2nd object and comes to rest 24 cm inside of the 2nd object (which does not move). What is the 1st object's average deceleration (m/s/s)?

a = change in velocity / change in time

distance = average speed * time

average speed = 339/2 = 169.5 m/s
so
time to stop = .24/169.5
= .0014159 seconds

a = -339/.0014159 = -239,419 m/s^2

ouch !
