What would the limit be for the following problems?

lim (square root (x+3))
x--> 1

I thought it would be 1.4

lim (1/x)
x--> 7

I thought it would be 0 or .1 but neither of those show to be correct.

√(x+3) --> √(1+3) = √4 = 2

lim 1/x --> 1/7

how did you come up with your bizarre values?
