sodium + H2O is a bit violent
I would bet on S because H2S is not only stinky but acid

S won't do it since it isn't soluble in water. (C and Si are not soluble either). The answer is sodium.
2Na + 2H2O ==> H2 + 2NaOH and NaOH is a strong base which will turn phenolphthalein pink.
