if 2(x-5)=-11 then x = ? how do you get the answer? i came up with -8 but its wrong

divide both sides by two, then add five to both sides. It is not a whole number.

another way to do this in your head: What is half of -11? (Ans, -5 1/2). Now add five to that ...that is x.
