WHAT WERE THE PURPOSES FOR THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE?

The American colonists were unhappy with their English rulers. The colonists didn't like the high taxes on common things such as tea and paper. They tried to tell the king to change things, but he refused.

The Declaration of Independence told the king that the American colonies were now independent. It said that the colonies wouldn't obey the king any more and would become an independent country.
