tomatoes: (1/4)(12) = 3
remainder = 9
pears = (1/3)(9) = 3
remainder = 6
radishes = (1/2) of 6 = 3
leaving 3 for the lettuce
so 3 ft^2 of radishes
remainder = 9
pears = (1/3)(9) = 3
remainder = 6
radishes = (1/2) of 6 = 3
leaving 3 for the lettuce
so 3 ft^2 of radishes
And so on. Because when i did it gave me three and no remainer of nine! I am just very confused!
Step 1: Calculate the area of the whole plot.
The plot is 12 feet square, so the area can be calculated by multiplying the length and width: 12 feet x 12 feet = 144 square feet.
Step 2: Calculate the area of the portion planted with tomatoes.
They want to plant 1/4 of the plot with tomatoes, so we can find that by multiplying the area of the whole plot by 1/4: 144 square feet x 1/4 = 36 square feet.
Step 3: Calculate the area of the remaining garden after planting tomatoes.
To find the area of the remaining garden, subtract the area planted with tomatoes from the whole plot: 144 square feet - 36 square feet = 108 square feet.
Step 4: Calculate the area of the portion that will be pears.
They want to plant 1/3 of the remaining garden with pears, so we find that by multiplying the area of the remaining garden by 1/3: 108 square feet x 1/3 = 36 square feet.
Step 5: Calculate the area of the rest of the plot.
The rest of the plot is 108 square feet after planting tomatoes and pears.
Step 6: Calculate the area of the portion that will be radishes.
They want to plant 1/2 of the remaining garden with radishes, so we find that by multiplying the area of the remaining garden by 1/2: 108 square feet x 1/2 = 54 square feet.
Therefore, the class will plant 54 square feet of radishes.
